Every week in Oakland, pets enter the shelter system for preventable reasons—no ID tag, no microchip, families unable to afford basic supplies, or treatable medical issues that are out of reach due to high costs. HAPI removes these barriers through direct outreach and community events, meeting people where they are and offering free, relationship-based support that keeps pets safe and with the people who love them.

Provides a complete safety package: a personalized ID tag, collar, and microchip.
This is the most effective set of tools to keep a pet from entering the shelter system.

Provides a week of food for about four pets, supporting families who can’t afford even the basics.

Helps families address early, preventative medical needs — such as vaccines, dewormer, and flea/tick medication — before they become crises that force pets into the shelter.
